Bang's disease, abortion Bang: bovine disease; syn. brucellosis

After the Danish veterinarian and bacteriologist Bernhard Bang (Soro 1848 – Copenhagen 1932).

Bang was a professor of veterinary medicine in Copenhagen and head of the public veterinary service of Denmark. In 1897 he discovered the causative agent (brucella abortion) of contagious rejection in cattle, which can also infect humans.

Infection usually occurs through consumption of raw milk from infected cattle or through broken skin. He also designed the first practical bovine tuberculosis control system.
