After the French mathematician Bertrand-François Barrême (Lyon 1640 – Paris 1703).
Barrême wrote Comptes Faits du Grand Commerce (1670), a collection of very precise calculations that gave rise to the expression compter comme Barrême: to calculate precisely.
The author taught arithmetic in the French capital and held the title Expert for the accounts of the Paris Court of Auditors.
