augias stable

hopelessly polluted room, neglected work

To Augias, king of Elis. His stable of three thousand cattle had not been cleaned in thirty years. Hercules cleared the stable in one day by leading two rivers through it.

Augias was particularly angry and refused to give up the agreed tenth of his flock to Hercules. Years later, Hercules would kill Augias in single combat.
